PM2.5 refers to particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 microns. These particles are 30 times smaller than a human hair and include mixtures of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. They are responsible for the deterioration of air quality typical of large cities.
