PM2.5 consists of solid particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These particles include dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. They create the characteristic haze observed in large cities.
According to the global ranking, as of February 1, Bishkek ranks 33rd (as of 5:00 PM) in terms of air pollution levels.
