PM2.5 consists of particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the thickness of a human hair. They include dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances contribute to reduced visibility and deteriorate air quality in large cities.
As of December 31, Bishkek ranks 16th (5:00 PM) in the global air quality ranking.
