The head of the air quality department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Nursultan Tashybek uulu, confirmed in an interview with a journalist that, according to Kyrgyzhydromet, the smog situation is improving year by year.

He explained that Kyrgyzhydromet is a government agency responsible for monitoring and collecting information on air pollution, and its data confirms positive changes.

Tashybek uulu noted that there is an air pollution index that shows good results over the past five years. For example, the average annual concentration of pollutants in 2020 was 0.033 mg/m³, in 2021 it was 0.029 mg/m³, in 2022 it was 0.04 mg/m³, in 2023 it was 0.034 mg/m³, in 2024 it was 0.023 mg/m³, and in 2025 it was 0.024 mg/m³. Although the pollution level has slightly increased this year, there is an overall trend of reduction.

The official also pointed out that the main factors of air pollution during the winter period are low-quality coal and automobile transport.

According to Nursultan Tashybek uulu, air pollution is a common problem caused by the activities of industrial facilities and private enterprises associated with emissions. Despite this, the ministry is taking measures to reduce the level of pollution.
