The head of the Department for Air Protection of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Nursultan Tashybek uulu, reported at a briefing that, according to the Hydrometeorological Service, the quality of atmospheric air improves every year. However, smog over Bishkek remains noticeable.
According to him, the main cause of air pollution is emissions from various industrial enterprises and private facilities. The capital's area is developing, and the number of residential areas is increasing. Tashybek uulu noted that mass connection to gas is not feasible, although the government offers preferential loans, but there are few willing to take advantage of them. He also emphasized that the population should be aware of the benefits of gasification, and those who use coal should install filters to capture soot. In addition, he pointed out that since autumn, there has been burning of leaves and waste, which requires an increase in environmental awareness in society.
According to the official, comprehensive measures are being implemented in the country to reduce emissions. In particular, a ban on the import of fine fraction coal has been introduced in Bishkek and the Chui region, and raids are being conducted to monitor compliance with this ban. Many enterprises do not have dust and gas cleaning installations, and during inspections, they are issued orders to meet the necessary requirements. There is also an increase in the number of bike paths and greening of the city, and citizens are encouraged to use public transport. As part of the public transport renewal program, gas buses and electric buses are being purchased, whereas previously diesel minibuses were used. Thus, despite the existence of a set of measures, it will not be possible to solve the smog problem in the short term, and we all need to approach this task more consciously.
