Ministry of Health: Kyrgyzstan lacks 23 thousand medical workers

The reason for the shortage of medical personnel was announced by the head of the department

Kyrgyzstan is facing a shortage of 23 thousand medical workers, as reported by Acting Minister of Health Kanbek Dosmambetov at a meeting of the parliamentary committee.

According to his information, the staffing schedule of the ministry anticipates 88 thousand employees, but currently only 65 thousand are working. Of the total number of missing specialists, 6.5 thousand are doctors, 8.5 thousand are nurses, 3.5 thousand are sanitary workers, and about 2 thousand are technical specialists.

The main reason for this personnel shortage is the low level of wages.

Nevertheless, the acting minister emphasized that he will continue the fight against corruption in the medical field, adding that no one will be held back from leaving their positions for this reason.

It is worth noting that the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh discussed a draft law that also concerns granting the status of "National" to the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy.

If the draft law is adopted, at least 23 medical educational institutions will be required to undergo accreditation, and institutions that do not meet the established requirements will be closed.
