Former head of the State Security Service detained in Georgia

Suspected of receiving large bribes


Grigol Liluashvili, the former head of the State Security Service of Georgia, has been arrested by law enforcement agencies. This information was announced by the Attorney General of Georgia, Giorgi Gvarakidze, at a press conference on Tuesday, as reported by the Xinhua News Agency.

According to Gvarakidze, Liluashvili is accused of several crimes, including participating in receiving a bribe of particularly large amounts by a group of individuals in conspiracy. This crime could result in a prison sentence of 11 to 15 years.

The prosecution insists that Liluashvili be placed in custody as a preventive measure.

From October 17, 2019, to April 2, 2025, Liluashvili held the position of head of the State Security Service of Georgia.
