The entrepreneur faced public condemnation after the incident with the boy

Polish billionaire Piotr Szczerk apologized for the incident in which he took a cap from a boy that tennis player Kamil Majchrzak wanted to give to the child during the US Open tournament. This was reported by RBC.

On August 28, Majchrzak won against Russia's top player Karen Khachanov in the second round of the tournament in New York. After the match, the tennis player began signing autographs for fans and handed a cap to one of them. However, a man next to him, who turned out to be Szczerk, snatched the cap from the boy and put it in his bag, despite the child's protests.
After a video of the incident went viral on social media, Szczerk faced a wave of criticism from both users and his business structures. Initially, he ignored the negative comments and deleted his accounts, but eventually succumbed to public pressure.

“I want to sincerely apologize to the boy, his family, all the fans, and the player himself. I never intended to take such a valuable souvenir from a young admirer. I was overwhelmed with emotions and the joy of victory. I thought Majchrzak was handing the cap to me to give to my children, who had previously asked for autographs,” Szczerk wrote.

He also noted that he personally apologized to the boy and sent him the cap.

Tennis player Majchrzak, upon learning of the incident, found the boy and also gave him the cap and other gifts.

Piotr Szczerk and his wife are successful businessmen and tennis enthusiasts who actively support young Polish players. Their company Drogbruk is a sponsor of the Polish Tennis Federation, as noted by The Times. The size of the Szczerk family's fortune is not disclosed.
