Discussing the current situation with energy, Emomali Rahmon pointed to the growing population, the opening of new enterprises, and the decreasing water level in the Nurek Reservoir as the main reasons for the deficit. At the same time, he emphasized that these factors cannot serve as an excuse for such problems.

The president also noted that annual electricity losses in Tajikistan reach 3 billion kilowatt-hours. Authorities plan to reduce these losses by introducing billing meters.

In his address, Rahmon mentioned that in the past, employees in the energy sector often unjustifiably recorded residents as debtors. He added that after the implementation of the new system, it became clear that the population pays for electricity on time.

However, the president did not address the issue of what will happen with the existing debts of the population, which as of July this year amounted to about 1.7 billion somoni according to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.

Rahmon's statements came against the backdrop of ongoing restrictions on electricity supply. In recent weeks, residents of Dushanbe and other regions have reported frequent outages, with electricity being supplied for only 1-3 hours a day.
