At the IV People's Kurultai, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, called on the delegates not to flatter the authorities but to raise important and relevant issues. He emphasized the need to speak to the point.
“Now all 150 delegates will begin their speeches. Some will greet, congratulate on holidays, and some will praise the authorities. This will take a significant amount of time, which may cause many not to fit within the allotted time. To avoid this, I ask you to get straight to the point. Otherwise, the opposition and NGOs may start claiming that we have gathered only those who will praise us. We do not need praise. If you have constructive criticism, speak about it openly; no one will persecute you for that. I heard that the akim of one of the districts tried to pressure a delegate, and we are conducting an investigation into this matter. The responsible person will be held accountable,” Japarov emphasized.
Furthermore, the president urged the delegates not to address him directly but to pass their appeals to the secretariat of the kurultai. “Do not worry, all your speeches will be under my control. I will personally record each of the 150 speeches,” he added.
