Sadyr Japarov: Salaries of teachers and doctors will double starting April 1

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov announced a significant increase in salaries for social sector workers. He made this statement on December 25 at the fourth People's Kurultai, emphasizing the importance of respect for teachers and doctors as the foundation of a prosperous state.

According to the president, teachers are those who shape the future of the country, while doctors play a key role in protecting the health and lives of citizens. However, representatives of these professions often face neglect, rudeness, and even violence.

“This is unacceptable. We must restore respect for these noble professions. Without honoring teachers and doctors, it is impossible to create a cultured and developed society,” Japarov noted.

In this regard, it was decided that starting April 1, 2026, the salaries of education and healthcare workers will increase by an average of 100%. Initially, a 50% increase was planned, but, as Japarov clarified, after additional consultations, it was decided to implement a presidential compensation of 15,000 soms, which will effectively double incomes.

“Recently, the prime minister announced a salary increase of at least 50%. Yesterday, after discussing the situation in my office, we concluded that introducing an additional compensation of 15,000 soms would allow salaries to increase by an average of 100%,” he said.

Providing specific examples, Japarov reported that currently, the average salary of teachers is 26,000 soms, and after the increase in April, it will reach 52,000 soms. The salary level depends on education, work experience, qualification category, region, and workload. For example, a new teacher in the city without experience will earn 36,800 soms, while take-home pay will be 31,200 soms. A mathematics teacher with 30 years of experience in a mountainous area currently earns 65,800 soms, and starting April 2026, his salary will be 97,600 soms.

As for medical workers, their average salary currently stands at 31,500 soms, and starting April 2026, it will increase to 62,500 soms, which after taxes and contributions will amount to over 50,000 soms. For instance, a new doctor without experience in the city currently earns 16,900 soms, and after the increase, will receive 42,100 soms, with take-home pay of 35,500 soms. A highly qualified doctor with 30 years of experience working in high-altitude conditions will earn 91,800 soms, with take-home pay of 75,700 soms.

The president also mentioned the salaries of other categories of workers: “The average salary of artists is 20,700 soms, and starting April 2026, it will rise to 46,500 soms, with take-home pay of 39,000. The average income of coaches will be 58,900 soms, with take-home pay of 45,000. The salaries of technical and service personnel will also increase by 80% after the introduction of a presidential compensation of 5,000 soms.”

Japarov emphasized that these measures are aimed at recognizing and strengthening the status of workers, as well as acknowledging their important contribution to the development of the country.

“Starting April 1, teachers' salaries will double, rather than increase by 50%, as previously stated by the prime minister. We made this decision yesterday. A young educator right after university will start earning 36,800 soms (take-home 31,200), and a mathematics teacher with 30 years of experience in a mountainous area will receive 97,600 soms instead of 65,800. The average salaries of medical workers will also significantly increase — from 31,500 to 62,500, with take-home pay of over 50,000. A young doctor without experience in the city will earn 42,100 soms, take-home 35,500, while a highly qualified doctor with 30 years of experience will earn 91,800, take-home 75,700,” he summarized.
