In the Batken region, in the city of Kyzyl-Kiya, local residents are facing a serious problem — access to clean water is provided only for two hours every two days. This became known during a session of the Jogorku Kenesh on December 25, when deputy Mahabat Mavlyanova raised this issue.

“Every citizen of Kyrgyzstan should have the opportunity to receive clean drinking water. However, in Kyzyl-Kiya, the situation is critical: water is supplied only for two hours every two days. How is this possible in a large city?” the deputy exclaimed, addressing the officials.

The director of the state institution “Development of Drinking Water Supply and Sewerage” Azamat Shadmanov confirmed that the water supply in Kyzyl-Kiya is indeed limited to a short time.

He also added that the first phase of the water supply project had previously been completed in the city, but it only met one-third of the residents' needs.

“Currently, the city hall is working on the budget estimate. Last year it was reported that about 700 million soms would be needed to complete the project, but now the amount has increased to over 1 billion soms, as the water source is located 25 kilometers from the city,” Shadmanov clarified.

He noted that the government will be looking for investors to implement this project.
