A delegate of the Kurultai proposed to build a cascade of small hydropower plants in Chon-Kemin as an alternative to the development of the Dolpran gold deposit.
- At the IV People's Kurultai, held on December 25 in Bishkek, a delegate from the village of Chon-Kemin in the Kemin district of the Chui region, Dastan Dunkanaev, emphasized the Dolpran gold deposit, which became the main topic of discussions.
Dunkanaev reported that during the geological exploration stage, the head of one of the Chinese companies was detained for causing damage to pastures. Nevertheless, a final decision on the Dolpran development project has not yet been made, and the situation remains uncertain.
“Local residents are concerned about this situation. According to the information provided, there are about 5 tons of gold in Dolpran, for which a 20-year license is being requested for three sites. If mining begins, it could threaten 4,000 hectares of pasture land and over 100 water sources, which is particularly alarming as the deposit is located near residential areas,” he noted.
Furthermore, Dunkanaev emphasized that the residents of Chon-Kemin are not opposed to the idea of building small hydropower plants, as water in the region is supplied for free. According to him, there are already entrepreneurs ready to implement such projects, and there is a possibility to create a cascade of small hydropower plants. This, in the opinion of local residents, would be a safer and more environmentally friendly option than gold mining, even considering the potential financial benefits. Reference:
The Dolpran deposit is located in the Kemin district, and according to the registry, its gold reserves amount to 1.3 tons.
The license for the development of this deposit is held by LLC "Kemin Resource Group," according to data from the Ministry of Natural Resources' license registry.
This company was registered on July 5, 2021, its founder is Hainan Huayao-Jinbao Mining Management LLC, and the director is Tian Dazhi.
