In Kyrgyzstan, there are currently 815 thousand pensioners registered. This was reported by Bakhtiyar Aliyev, the chairman of the Social Fund, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on December 25.

According to his estimates, by 2030 this number will grow to more than 1 million.

“A country is considered to be aging if elderly people make up 4 to 7 percent of the population. If this figure exceeds 7 percent, it is already considered old. Currently, the share of elderly citizens in Kyrgyzstan is about 6 percent, and within the next 10 years we will cross this threshold,” Aliyev noted.

He also added that to ensure pensions, there needs to be three working people for each pensioner. In Kyrgyzstan, this ratio currently stands at only 0.9.

“However, a significant portion of the population works in the informal sector and does not make insurance contributions. According to the National Statistics Committee, this is about 1 million citizens. Last year, the rates were reduced to 12 percent, and according to the State Tax Service, after that, 58 thousand people began to make contributions,” said the head of the Social Fund.
