On December 24, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Adylbek Kasymaliev, reported on the ongoing implementation of large-scale projects in the field of culture in Kyrgyzstan, aimed at updating infrastructure and improving the material and technical base of cultural and artistic institutions.
As part of the discussion on the republican budget for 2025, 465 million soms were allocated for the modernization of cultural institutions, which is significantly less compared to the 952 million soms allocated in 2024.
Throughout 2025, major repairs and restoration works were also carried out. For these purposes, 273 million soms were allocated in 2024, and 208 million soms in 2025.
Among the main implemented and upcoming projects, the following can be highlighted:
• construction of a new educational building for the Kyrgyz National University of Culture and Arts named after B. Beishenaliev with a budget of 990 million soms;
• erection of a new building for the Kyrgyz National Music College named after M. Kureneev with a budget of 750 million soms.
Particular attention in 2025 was given to the development of cultural infrastructure in the regions. In particular, in the city of Manas:
• the construction of a new modern philharmonic hall for 3,200 seats is underway, costing 1 billion soms;
• the creation of a modern city museum has begun, for which 250 million soms have been allocated.
Kasymaliev noted that the implementation of these projects is part of state policy aimed at developing the cultural sector, improving conditions for creative education, and expanding access for the population to cultural facilities across the country.
Additionally, he reminded that the national drink maksym has been included in the UNESCO list of intangible heritage.
