After the tragic death of 47-year-old U.J., a mother of three, the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan, Jamila Jamambaeva, called on law enforcement agencies to respond more promptly to complaints of domestic violence. The murder occurred on her birthday, highlighting the serious issue of insufficient protection for women and girls in the country.

Jamambaeva noted that such incidents raise doubts about the safety of women, who often cannot leave their aggressive partners. She insists on the necessity of strict punishment for the offenders.

According to information from relatives, U.J. had reported domestic violence to law enforcement agencies in November of this year and later initiated divorce proceedings.

The Ombudsman Institute has already announced its readiness to provide psychological and legal support to the family of the deceased.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nearly 20,000 cases of domestic violence were registered in Kyrgyzstan over the course of 11 months this year, of which 519 became the basis for criminal cases. The Ombudsman Institute received 129 complaints regarding violations of the rights of women and children in the first 10 months of 2025, 24 of which concerned issues of domestic violence.
