At today's meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputies discussed the candidacy of Gulzat Isamatova for the position of Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations.

Parliamentarian Dastan Bekeshev made a request to the acting minister to stop the practice of imposing financial penalties on students for missing classes.

He noted: "Academic disciplinary measures should remain the only ones. How can we raise the level of students' knowledge if we are simply taking their money? I insist on ending this practice in all educational institutions. Universities should remember their primary task — providing education," he added.

Gulzat Isamatova supported the idea that students should make up for missed classes rather than pay for them. She promised to create a special commission to study this issue.

It was previously reported that Gulzat Isamatova held the position of Vice-Rector for International Relations and Investments at the Kusein Karasaev University. President Sadyr Japarov appointed her as the acting Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations on December 24.

It is worth noting that her predecessor, Baktyar Orozov, was relieved of his duties due to a violation of ethical norms. He was detained by traffic police inspectors in the village of Koy-Tash while in an intoxicated state.
