Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan: A record number of 'smart' meters installed

In 2025, Kyrgyzstan achieved significant success in the installation of smart meters, according to information from the country's Ministry of Energy.

At the beginning of the year, the State Enterprise "National Electric Network of Kyrgyzstan" set a goal to install 500,000 such devices, and this goal has been successfully achieved to date.

Among the installed meters:
• Bishkek — 28,605 units;

• Chui Region — 114,884 units;

• Talas Region — 36,900 units;

• Osh Region — 108,907 units;

• Batken Region — 45,912 units;

• Jalal-Abad Region — 82,903 units;

• Issyk-Kul Region — 47,929 units;

• Naryn Region — 33,960 units.

The main goal of implementing smart meters is to optimize electricity distribution, monitor consumption, enable remote servicing, and improve accounting efficiency.

Advantages of smart meters:

• automatic data transmission to the server in real time;

• protection of equipment from overloads;

• alerts about attempts to interfere with the operation of the meter;

• automatic disconnection of electricity in case of debt and reconnection after the debt is settled.

For reference: from 2022 to 2025, 724,290 metering devices were replaced and connected as part of the Automated Commercial Metering System (ACMS):

• in 2022 — 36,905 units;

• in 2023 — 55,357 units;

• in 2024 — 131,149 units;

• in 2025 — 500,879 units.
