PM2.5 consists of solid particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These include dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates suspended in the air. These substances contribute to the deterioration of air quality typical of large cities.
As of January 30, Bishkek ranks 17th in the world air quality ranking (as of 11:00).
