PM2.5 refers to fine particulate matter smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than a human hair. It includes a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances contribute to the deterioration of air quality, which is typical for large cities.
As of January 29, Bishkek ranks 67th in the world air quality and pollution ranking (17:00).
