PM2.5 refers to microscopic particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. They are a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances contribute to reduced visibility and create the characteristic pollution observed in large cities.
As of January 18, Bishkek ranks third in the world for air pollution levels at 5:00 PM.
