PM2.5 refers to particulate matter smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times thinner than a human hair. They consist of a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. These substances contribute to reduced visibility, typical of large cities.
On a global level, as of January 7, Bishkek ranks 12th (11:00) in air pollution ratings.
