Khabib Nurmagomedov, known as the UFC lightweight champion, spoke about his childhood passion for football, which has always remained his favorite sport.

The athlete noted that his transition to the world of mixed martial arts was not spontaneous. His choice was significantly influenced by his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who worked as a coach.

Nurmagomedov ended his fighting career in October 2020, achieving victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. In March 2021, he officially announced his retirement from sports but continued his involvement in MMA as a coach.

Under his mentorship, fighters compete not only in the UFC but also in other leagues, including PFL champion Usman Nurmagomedov. Previously, Khabib mentioned that he intends to completely leave the world of MMA after the careers of his protégés, among whom are Islam Makhachev and the Nurmagomedov brothers — Umar and Usman.
