A new legionnaire from Russia has joined the national team of Kyrgyzstan in freestyle wrestling.

In the 86 kg category, the gold medal was won by 29-year-old Malik Shavaev. He started the competition from the round of 16 and consecutively secured four victories.

In the decisive match, Shavaev, representing the city of Talas, defeated Mukhammed Abdullaev, who is the leader of the Kyrgyzstan national team in this weight category.

Malik Shavaev, born on June 21, 1996, competes for the Spartak sports club from Nalchik.

He has been a two-time champion of Russia in the 79 kg weight class (2021, 2022) and was a finalist at the 2024 Russian Championship, where he lost to Ibrahim Kadiyev from Dagestan.

Based on the results of this tournament, the national team of Kyrgyzstan will be formed to participate in international competitions.

In April, the Asian Championship will take place in Bishkek, and in the fall, Bahrain will host the World Championship. Additionally, the Asian Games will be held in Japan this year.
