A new legionnaire from Russia has joined the Kyrgyzstan national team in freestyle wrestling


Freestyle wrestling in Kyrgyzstan has gained a new name: 29-year-old Malik Shavaev from Russia. He became the champion at the national championship in the weight category up to 86 kg, as reported by "Sport АКИpress".

Shavaev started the competition from the 1/8 finals and confidently passed all stages, winning four consecutive matches. In the final bout, representing the city of Talas, he managed to defeat Muhammad Abdullaev, who is the leader of the Kyrgyzstan national team in this weight category, and won the gold medal.

Malik Shavaev was born on June 21, 1996, and represents the Spartak sports club from Nalchik. He has two titles of champion of Russia in the weight category up to 79 kg (2021, 2022), as well as a final appearance at the 2024 Russian Championship, where he lost to Ibrahim Kadiyev from Dagestan.

Based on the results of the Kyrgyzstan championship, a team will be formed to participate in international competitions. In April, the Asian Championship will take place in Bishkek, in the fall Bahrain will host the World Championship, and this year the Asian Games will be held in Japan.
