Tajik boy killed in a school in the Moscow region. Dushanbe claims it was a hate crime based on nationality

Kobildzhon Aliev, a 10-year-old citizen of Tajikistan and a student at Uspenskaya School, became a victim of an attack carried out by a high school student. Dushanbe has expressed a demand for a thorough investigation. Politicians in Russia are calling for caution in drawing conclusions about a possible link between the crime and Russian nationalism, reports Azattyq Asia.

On the morning of December 16, Kobildzhon arrived at school, like his classmates, unaware that it would be his last day. According to the investigation, a 15-year-old high school student, Timofey K., brought a knife and a gas canister to school. On the day of the attack, he was wearing a T-shirt with the provocative slogan "No Lives Matter," which refers to violent ideas on the internet.
The teenager recorded his actions on camera. A 15-minute video surfaced online showing him preparing for the attack in a school bathroom, where he left a dummy explosive device. He then began searching for one of the teachers who had "dark hair" and encountered a group of children.

In the video, he approaches them with a knife and asks, "What is your nationality?" After that, he sprays gas in the face of a security guard and stabs him.

Witnesses, the children, ran away in fear. The attacker chased one of them, a dark-haired boy, shouting threats.

On the stairs, the attacker caught up with his victim and inflicted several stab wounds. When the boy fell, the teenager took a selfie with the body.

He then hid in an empty classroom, from where he was extracted by special forces officers.

Information about the deceased and his family

Kobildzhon was the son of cleaner Nilufar Safoeva, a 35-year-old citizen of Tajikistan, and had a younger brother who was in the same class. According to the Russian publication mk.ru, at the moment of the attack, the boy was confused when the teacher began gathering the children into the classroom. He tried to distract the attacker and ran towards the stairs, where he became a victim.

According to relatives, the teacher was planning to take the children to the cafeteria, but noticing the threat, she decided to return them to the classroom. Kobildzhon, wanting to save his classmates, tried to distract the attacker.

Kobildzhon's family rented an apartment near the school. Nilufar worked as a cleaner and caregiver, having moved to Russia four years ago after the death of her husband, who served in the Tajik border troops. She tried to provide for her sons and planned to send them back to Tajikistan as their foreign passports were expiring.

Situation with the suspect

The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case on charges of murder and attempted murder. The suspect has reportedly already given testimony.

He is to be assessed for sanity, with a psychological and psychiatric examination scheduled. The investigation will also examine his connections and activity on social media.

According to Telegram channels, shortly before the attack, the teenager sent out a manifesto titled "My Anger," in which he expressed hatred for society and divided people by nationality and religion.

During a search of the teenager's home, a weapons cache was found, including a pistol, a bulletproof vest with prohibited symbols, and a knife. He also posted photos with weapons on social media.

Classmates note that the teenager had not attended school for several weeks, but before that, he seemed quite adequate. He usually received grades of threes and fours and was interested in military themes. The suspect's father learned about the incident from the news and stated that he did not understand the reasons for the attack.

Reactions from the authorities of Tajikistan and Russia

On December 17, the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack on Kobildzhon, calling it an act of national hatred.

The Russian ambassador to Tajikistan, Sergey Grigoryev, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was handed a note demanding an immediate and objective investigation.

More than a million Tajiks work abroad, mainly in Russia. Dushanbe does not provide exact data on labor migration; however, according to World Bank estimates, in 2024, remittances from migrants accounted for 45% of Tajikistan's GDP, which is the highest rate in the world. Last year, Tajik migrants sent about $5.8 billion back home.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, Ramazon Rahimzoda, also reached out to his Russian counterparts, calling for a full investigation into the murder. He emphasized that such crimes could be exploited by radical groups to promote violence.

The Russian authorities, in turn, assured that the investigation would be conducted under strict oversight, and all measures would be taken to clarify all circumstances. State Duma deputy Mikhail Matveev stated that it is premature to speak of manifestations of Russian nationalism in this crime, pointing out that the majority of the victims are Russian.

The Governor of the Moscow region, Andrey Vorobyov, characterized the incident as an act of extreme cruelty and noted the need to analyze the causes that led to the tragedy to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The children's ombudsman of the Moscow region, Ksenia Mishonova, condemned the dissemination of materials from the crime scene, emphasizing that it is unacceptable towards the victims and their families.

She refrained from commenting on the substance of the attack at the school.
