Illustrative photo During an operation conducted on the night of December 13-14, four individuals were detained, including the alleged organizer. According to police information, the raid was carried out based on received operational intelligence.
Operatives discovered an underground workshop in a store in Bidonpur, where the suspects were assembling Samsung smartphones from components imported from China for subsequent sale.
As a result of the search, 512 counterfeit phones were seized, including Ultra, Fold, and Flip models, as well as 124 motherboards, 138 batteries, 459 counterfeit IMEI stickers stating "Made in Vietnam," and specialized assembly tools.
According to the investigation, the components were purchased in China and then assembled into smartphones, which were sold as new at prices ranging from 35,000 to 40,000 rupees (approximately $391–447) each. To create an appearance of legality, counterfeit IMEI stickers were affixed to the devices.
The detained individuals included Hakim (36 years old) from Ashok Vihar, Mehtab Ahmad Ansari (36) from Bridgepuri, Ravi Ahluja (36) from Rohini, and 33-year-old Rahul from Karol Bagh. All of them were caught red-handed during the raid.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the detainees under articles related to telecommunications legislation, as well as charges of fraud and providing false information.
The alleged organizer of the criminal scheme, according to the police, is Hakim, who did not finish school and only received an education up to the 8th grade. He was involved in importing various mobile components, such as motherboards, cameras, and cases. With the help of his accomplices, he assembled smartphones of popular Samsung models and sold them as original devices.
The police continue the investigation aimed at establishing the entire supply chain, identifying buyers, and uncovering a broader network involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit premium mobile phones.
