PM2.5 refers to particles smaller than 2.5 microns. Their diameter is 30 times smaller than that of a human hair. These particles include a mixture of dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. They contribute to the deterioration of air quality typical of large cities.
As of February 4, Bishkek ranks 102nd in the world air quality and pollution ranking (5:00 PM).
