Snowfall is expected in the southern Altai Gobi, in the Khangai mountains, and in the valleys of the Selenga, Kharaa, Terelj, and Kherlen rivers.
According to meteorologists, on January 28, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, cloudy weather is expected in the southern regions of the country, while other parts may experience variable cloudiness. In the southern part of the Altai Gobi, in the mountainous areas of Khangai, and along the Selenga, Kharaa, Terelj, and Kherlen rivers, snow will fall, while no precipitation is forecasted in other regions. In the southwestern areas, the wind will blow from the southwest, while in other parts of the country it will come from the northwest at a speed of 5-10 meters per second.
Temperature readings around Lake Uvs, the Darkhad basin, and the valleys of the Tes, Orkhon, Kharaa, and Yeruu rivers will range from 23 to 28°C. In the basins of the Zag-Baidrag, Ider, Eg, Uur, Selenga, Tuul, Terelj, Kherlen, Onon, and Ulz rivers, as well as in the valley of the Khalkh river and the Darygansky steppe, temperatures are expected to range from -17 to -22°C. In the Altai mountains, the foothills of the Khangai mountains, and the southeastern part of the Gobi, temperatures will be between -6 and -11°C, while in other areas, temperatures will be from -11 to -16°C.
In the southwestern part of the Gobi region, air temperatures are forecasted to be between 0 and 5°C.
Cloudy weather with light snow is also expected around Ulaanbaatar. The wind will be from the southeast or northwest, at a speed of 5-10 meters per second. The air temperature will be -12 to -14°C.
