Adilet Kerimbek uulu from Kyrgyzstan shared his experience of attending a football match in Saudi Arabia.
The event took place on January 8 in Jeddah, where the first semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup was held between the teams "Barcelona" and "Athletic".
“I came to the match with the flag of Kyrgyzstan wrapped around me. At the first checkpoint, they started asking me about the flag, wondering if there were any inscriptions on it. I replied that it was just the flag of my country. After a long discussion, the volunteers eventually let us through,” he recounts.
According to Adilet, there were only three checkpoints on the way to the stands.
“At the second checkpoint, we were stopped again, they were interested in my flag and ultimately confiscated it, along with all my equipment. This included a lapel mic for my phone, which they also took. Everything was placed in a special block, from where you could retrieve your belongings upon exiting,” added the Kyrgyzstani.
The Spanish Super Cup has been held in Saudi Arabia for the sixth consecutive year.
As Adilet explained, the local organizers established a rule that only flags of the participating teams and the flag of Saudi Arabia could be brought into the stadium.
“The stadium accommodates over 60,000 spectators, and although there were flags from other countries, their number was insignificant. Upon exiting, I was able to retrieve my flag and lapel mic without any problems,” Adilet concluded his story.
