PM2.5 consists of fine solid particles with a size of less than 2.5 microns. This is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These particles include dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates that are suspended in the air. They contribute to the formation of smog typical of large megacities.
