PM2.5 consists of microscopic particles smaller than 2.5 microns, which is 30 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These particles include dust, ash, soot, as well as sulfates and nitrates present in the air. It is these pollutants that create the characteristic haze typical of large cities.
On a global scale, as of February 28, Bishkek ranks 17th (as of 5:00 PM) in air quality and atmospheric pollution.
