Samsung and Apple maintained leadership in smartphone shipments worldwide

According to preliminary data from the research company IDC Tracker, last year the South Korean corporation Samsung and the American company Apple maintained their leading positions in smartphone shipments in the global market. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

According to IDC, Apple sold 247.8 million smartphones, accounting for 19.7% of the total global sales, which is 6.3% more than last year. In the fourth quarter, shipments increased by 4.9% compared to the same period, reaching 81.3 million devices.

According to the same data, Samsung shipped 241.2 million smartphones over the entire year, which corresponds to 19.1% of global shipments and is 7.9% more year-on-year. In the last quarter of this year, shipments increased by 18.3%, totaling 61.2 million units.

“Samsung showed the highest growth in the fourth quarter since 2013, thanks to successful sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 models and affordable devices from the Galaxy A series with artificial intelligence features. Apple, in turn, achieved its best results for the fourth quarter since 2021 and recorded the highest quarterly revenue, highlighting the success of the iPhone 17 lineup,” commented the data by IDC's Vice President for Client Devices Francisco Jeronimo.

Xiaomi ranked third in terms of shipment volumes with 13.1% of global shipments, followed by Vivo with 8.2% and Oppo with 8.1%.

As a result of last year, the total volume of global smartphone sales increased by 1.9% compared to the previous year, reaching 1.26 billion units. In the fourth quarter, this figure rose by 2.3% compared to the same period, reaching 336.3 million devices.
