- In 2025, Tesla, under the leadership of Elon Musk, lost its position as the leader in the global electric vehicle market for the first time. Now, the top spot is held by the Chinese company BYD, as reported by Bloomberg.

According to the publication's data, Tesla's deliveries have decreased for the second consecutive year — in 2024, volumes fell by approximately 9%. At the same time, BYD has shown growth in deliveries for five consecutive quarters.

Bloomberg points out that Tesla's difficulties are related to the update of the Model Y, which required a restructuring of production processes at its factories. Unlike Tesla, BYD offers a wider range of models, and most of their electric vehicles are priced lower than popular Tesla models — the Model Y and Model 3.

Additionally, the agency notes that Tesla's results have been negatively affected by Elon Musk's political actions, his connections with the Republican Party and former U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as his involvement in federal government management (DOGE).

“BYD is not represented in the American market and operates in a highly competitive environment within China,” writes Bloomberg.
