- In a recent interview, Meder Mashiev, the Minister of Natural Resources, discussed with Tazabek the issues related to the decline in production indicators at Kumtor and in the country as a whole.

According to him, in 2023, Kyrgyzstan produced 32 tons of gold, and in 2024, it is expected that this figure will be 26 tons. This year, a production of 26 tons is also anticipated.

“The decrease in gold production volumes negatively impacts the economy of our country. We are actively working on solving this problem. Some companies have ceased their operations, particularly referring to gold extraction plants. However, starting next year, we forecast an increase in production volumes. I am confident that by 2030, we will not only restore previous levels but will also be able to increase them to 35 tons or more,” the minister noted.

Mashiev also reported on new projects, such as the Solton-Sary deposit, where the Chinese company Zhong Ji Mining and OJSC "Kyrgyzaltyn" are operating. Production has already begun, and next year, the release of metallic gold is expected.

“Some companies, for example, at the Terexai deposit (LLC "Eti Bakyr Terexai"), are already increasing their production capacities and plan to extract about 1 ton of gold or more. There are also large projects, such as the Jamgyr deposit (LLC "Vertex Gold Company"), where modernization of the recently built gold extraction plant is currently underway due to technical difficulties with mineralogy. Additionally, the construction of plants in the south of the country is planned at two major deposits — Zaav-Chaarat (CJSC "CHAARAT ZAAV") and Unkur-Tash (LLC "Highland Exploration"). These sites hold about 100 tons of reserves: 95 tons at one and 92 tons at the other. This is our immediate prospect,” the minister added.

Furthermore, Mashiev noted that small and medium-sized companies are also contributing to the increase in production volumes.
