- On December 27, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, attended the official opening of an eco-technological plant that will generate electricity through the disposal of solid household waste at the Bishkek sanitary landfill. This was reported by the press service of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The solid household waste landfill was put into operation in 1974 and has been operating continuously ever since. Approximately 20 million tons of garbage have accumulated on its territory.

The head of state noted that Bishkek has faced a serious problem in the management of solid household waste for many years. Up to 1,500 tons of garbage were removed daily, which negatively impacted the ecological situation in the capital.
As part of the project, 95 million dollars in investments were attracted. The plant has been allocated 12 hectares of land, and all financing is fully provided by the investor.

The president also pointed out that earlier, within the framework of this project, 22 million euros were attracted; however, 16 million of them were misused, leading to delays in the construction of the plant.

There are 6 million euros left in bank accounts, while the Bishkek city administration is currently paying the remaining amount of 16 million euros.

“The construction of the plant was completed in a year and a half, although the project had a two-year timeline. The concession for the implementation of the project will last 35 years, after which the plant will be transferred to state ownership. The plant will be able to process up to 365,000 tons of waste per year and a condensing turbo-generator power station with a capacity of 30 MW will be built,” the president reported.

In the first phase, the plant will process up to 1,000 tons of waste per day, with production capacities gradually increasing thereafter.

“If the project is successfully implemented, similar plants for generating electricity through waste disposal are planned to be built in the cities of Osh, Balakchy, and Karakol,” the president added.
