At the IV People's Kurultai, President Sadyr Japarov responded to a delegate's proposal to resume the construction of the Upper Naryn Cascade Hydroelectric Power Stations.
According to him, there are many investors ready to start implementing the project at any moment.
“However, you must remember the $37 million that has fallen on our shoulders. We are currently paying for samsa that we did not eat. The company 'RusHydro' won the case in international court, and together with the fines, the total debt has reached $51 million. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and we insist that we do not intend to pay. Nothing has been built in the project; only containers are standing idle, but the debt still remains. As long as this issue is not resolved, the construction of the hydropower station will not begin,” the president emphasized.
He also added that negotiations are ongoing, and a payment of $37 million is scheduled for 2026, after which the project will continue with another investor.
