During the IV People's Kurultai, President Sadyr Japarov raised the issue of low voter turnout in Kyrgyzstan.

Addressing the delegates, he asked those who had voted in the elections to raise their hands and was surprised when the entire hall responded.

“We can verify this information. Let's compare the data from the Central Election Commission with those 700 people. We will see who is telling the truth and who is not. I will not name names for now, but at the next Kurultai, I will announce those who lied,” the president noted.

He added that he hoped for a turnout increase to 70 percent due to the implementation of remote voting and the opening of additional polling stations in public places.

However, the turnout was only about 37 percent, which is just 200,000 votes more compared to the previous elections. “The people are showing passivity, even though they actively criticize the deputies. Those who sell their votes are actively participating, while the others refuse to go to the polls,” the head of state emphasized.

Sadyr Japarov also expressed the need for a law on mandatory voting participation and urged the deputies to consider possible mechanisms for this.

“In the next elections, electronic voting was planned to be introduced, but it seems that for us, this is still premature,” the president concluded.
