Sadyr Japarov, the president of the country, supported the initiative to revise the norms related to the electoral campaign for candidates to the Jogorku Kenesh. This includes reducing the limit on the number of campaigners and changing the amount of the electoral deposit.
The head of state noted that the request from the delegate is justified, adding that the current rules were proposed by the parliamentarians themselves. He reminded that earlier the amount of the electoral deposit was increased from 100,000 to 300,000 soms under the pretext of inflation and increasing election costs.

Photo by the president's press service The president emphasized that the same logic was used when increasing the maximum number of campaigners from 500 to 1,000, explaining this by the consolidation of districts, which include dozens, and sometimes more than a hundred villages. However, he agreed that such a high limit is not always justified.
“Even if the number of campaigners is reduced to 100, candidates will still attract people informally. It will be practically impossible to prove this,” Japarov noted.
He also added that the authorities are open to discussion and may suggest to the deputies to lower the limit, for example, to 500 or 300 campaigners.
As for the electoral deposit, the president expressed readiness to review it. He noted that previously the deposit was returned to candidates who could not gain 5 percent of the votes, but later it was decided to allocate this money to cover election expenses.
“We can also discuss this topic again,” the president said.
At the same time, he emphasized that a complete abandonment of the deposit is not acceptable. According to him, the absence of this restriction could lead to too many people wanting to run for office, complicating the entire electoral process.
