During the People's Kurultai, President Sadyr Japarov answered a question posed by delegate Tynchtykbek Jumagulov from the Kochkor district regarding the need to open a dialysis unit.

According to the head of state, he met with the Minister of Health the day before to discuss this issue.

“When I first started my term, 2000 people were undergoing dialysis procedures. Half of them paid for their treatment themselves, while the other half were funded by the state. Those who paid out of pocket worked solely for their kidneys — they drove taxis or engaged in other businesses. They spent about 100 dollars, receiving treatment every other day, once a week, or daily. Now we have fully transferred funding to the state budget. Currently, the number of patients has increased to 4000, which means that 3.5-4 billion soms are being spent from the budget,” the president noted.

He also added that in Bishkek, at the Turkish hospital and other medical institutions, opportunities have been opened for kidney transplant surgeries.

“Previously, many citizens approached me requesting funds for kidney transplants; there were entire stacks of documents on my desk. I proposed to open special units for such surgeries. Some said they had donors. We agreed to cover expenses amounting to 7,500-8,000 dollars. The opening of these units took place over two years ago, but during this time, only 37 people have undergone kidney transplants. Many believed that relatives would be able to help, but that did not happen. If a person undergoes a kidney transplant and is discharged from the hospital, their further treatment costs about 15,000 dollars a year. We agreed to pay because it would help save that 15,000 dollars. If we had paid 7,500-10,000 dollars upfront and discharged the patient, the expenses would have ceased, but in reality, they continue to grow. There is a law that allows donation only from close relatives, but there are proposals to change it and expand the circle of potential donors. I suggested discussing this issue jointly with the Ministry of Health and the deputies,” Sadyr Japarov reported.
