In Kazakhstan, the commissioning of 2.6 gigawatts of electricity generation capacity is planned for 2026.

- In 2026, Kazakhstan plans to launch 2.64 gigawatts of new electricity generation capacity. This information was announced on February 17 by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

As part of the preparations for this event, the commissioning of four combined cycle gas plants with a total capacity of 1.2 GW, two wind power plants (150 MW), four solar power plants (92 MW), and the expansion of two thermal power plants, which will add 1.1 GW, is expected by the end of the year. These new facilities will provide approximately 16 billion kWh of electricity per year.

As calculated by Tazabek specialists, taking into account the new facilities being introduced, the total installed capacity of Kazakhstan's entire energy sector will reach about 30 GW.

According to the ministry's data, in 2025, Kazakhstan imported 3.7 billion kWh of electricity.
