The Foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan Discussed Border Projects and the Issyk-Kul – Almaty Road

On February 13, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeenbek Kulubaev, met with Ermek Kosherbaev, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, who visited Bishkek as part of an official visit. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed the state of bilateral cooperation in various areas, including politics, economics, water resources, and culture. Special attention was paid to the implementation of previously reached agreements at the 7th meeting of the Supreme Intergovernmental Council and the 13th meeting of the Intergovernmental Council. A plan for mutual high-level visits in 2026 was also agreed upon.

Discussing practical aspects, the ministers reviewed the implementation of significant projects, such as the establishment of an industrial trade and logistics complex at the border, a wholesale distribution center in the Almaty region for storing vegetables and fruits, an alternative road from Issyk-Kul to Almaty, as well as the modernization of border posts and bridges on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border.

Furthermore, the parties emphasized the need to activate interregional cooperation in the agricultural sector and industrial cooperation, reaching an agreement on further analysis of existing opportunities.

The ministers exchanged views on strengthening joint work on multilateral platforms and confirmed their common stance on important regional issues, as well as expressed readiness to support each other in international organizations.

The parties also noted the importance of expanding cultural and humanitarian ties, including initiatives in education, healthcare, and youth policy.

At the end of the meeting, Kulubaev invited the Kazakh side to actively participate in the upcoming VI World Nomad Games.
