The Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Station, part of OJSC "Electric Stations," is currently undergoing modernization of two of its hydro units, as reported by the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In particular, the dismantling of the second hydro unit is currently 90% complete, and work on dismantling the first unit has already begun. Specialists are preparing for the complete removal of outdated equipment in order to install modern hydro units.

The hydroelectric power station consists of four units, each with an initial capacity of about 45 MW, producing over 800 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. It is expected that after the reconstruction, the capacity of the hydro unit will increase from 180 MW to 216 MW, allowing for the production of over 984 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This will significantly strengthen the energy security of Kyrgyzstan, as emphasized by the Ministry of Energy. The new equipment is planned to be put into operation by the end of 2026.

For reference: The Uch-Kurgan Hydroelectric Power Station is one of the oldest and strategically important hydroelectric power stations in the country. It is located on the Naryn River and was launched in 1962. For over 60 years, the station has been providing electricity to the southern regions, and the old equipment has served twice as long as the planned lifespan of 30-35 years. After many years of major reconstruction, the units have become outdated. The modern upgrade gives the station a "second life," enhancing its reliability, safety, and efficiency.
