In a recent report by the international organization IQAir, Bishkek ranked third among the most polluted cities in the world, with an air quality index (AQI) of 281.
This level is classified as "very unhealthy." A more critical situation is observed only in Lahore (Pakistan), where the index reached 398, and in Cairo (Egypt) with a reading of 384, both of which are considered "hazardous to health."
Doctors warn that such a high level of pollution poses a significant threat to public health. This is especially true for:
children and the elderly;
people suffering from chronic respiratory diseases (such as asthma or bronchitis);
citizens with cardiovascular diseases.
Experts recommend that residents during periods of heavy pollution close windows, avoid outdoor physical exertion, and use protective masks (FFP2/N95 standard) when going outside.
