Mamiraim Jumabaev, head of the gastroenterology department at the National Center for Cardiology and Therapy named after Mirrahimov and the chief freelance gastroenterologist of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, spoke on "Birinchi Radio" about the most common digestive tract diseases among Kyrgyzstanis.
According to him, statistics from recent years show that there are two main types of diseases. The first is functional gastrointestinal disorders, which account for about 75% of all consultations. The second type is organic pathologies, such as changes in the stomach, liver, and intestines, which make up about 25% of cases.
Functional disorders are often related to lifestyle and diet, while organic diseases are divided into three groups. The first group includes acid-dependent diseases associated with increased acidity. The second group includes liver and biliary tract pathologies, and the third includes various intestinal diseases.
Acid-dependent diseases, such as stomach ulcers and gastritis, are common. Despite all the advancements in medicine, there is a worrying trend in Kyrgyzstan: stomach cancer has become the leading oncological disease among both men and women. As for liver issues, the most significant problem is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which affects a considerable number of people.
Jumabaev noted that, considering the lifestyle and diet of the population, the number of patients with this pathology is growing. If the situation does not change, in ten years this will lead to serious diseases related to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of young patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. "These diseases are becoming increasingly common, and unfortunately, our options for treating them are limited," Jumabaev said.
