The results of the competition 'Together we will defeat HIV, taking care of ourselves and each other' have been summarized.
Syrga Isabaeva, coordinator of the project group at the Center for Health Development and Medical Technologies of the Ministry of Health, noted that the media competition has become part of a grant from the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

She emphasized: "We focused on stigma and discrimination, as biases against people living with HIV continue to exist in our society. The competition aims to spread accurate information about HIV among the population."

The stereotype that HIV is an incurable disease has taken root in the public consciousness. This fear arose during a time when the infection was associated with certain groups, such as drug users, sex workers, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. However, modern statistics show that more and more people are becoming infected with the virus as a result of ordinary life. It is important to note that HIV is not transmitted through airborne droplets or contact with household items. Scientists have proven that it can only be contracted through specific bodily fluids.

The existing habit of perceiving HIV as a deadly disease hinders society from accepting it as a manageable chronic illness. Vyacheslav Goncharov, head of the NGO "Door," cited an example from Austria, where HIV medications are available and freely dispensed in pharmacies, indicating a high level of public health awareness. According to him, there is a slow but positive change in attitudes toward HIV in Kyrgyzstan.

To reduce negative stereotypes, it is necessary to actively inform the public about HIV. Misunderstanding breeds fear, which prevents many from even getting tested. This was the reason for organizing the competition, to draw journalists' attention to this topic.

The competition "Together we will defeat HIV" was organized by the NGO "Door" with the support of the Center for Health Development and Medical Technologies of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and the UNDP project. A total of 29 works from all regions of the country participated in the competition.

The award ceremony for the winners took place on December 25. The names of the winners were announced by the jury members.

• Nomination "Best Material in Print and Online Media" - Nina Nichiporova (Publishing House "Evening Bishkek").

• Nomination "Best Radio Material" - Nuraiym Rysmambetova (News Agency "Sputnik").

• Nomination "Best Television Material" - Kalygul Asambaev (UTRK "Ala-Too" 24).

Additionally, the jury awarded the following special prizes:

• Asylzat Kozhonazarova ("Chekit Media").

• Gulbubu Usenova (UTRK, program "Radioclinic").

• Guliru Turatbek kyzy (UTRK Naryn).

The prize fund of the competition consisted of three laptops for the winners in each category.

Representatives of the NGO "Positive Youth" proposed to additionally reward participants whose works were recognized by the community of people living with HIV.

The awards were presented in a hybrid format: in Bishkek and with an online broadcast for participants from the regions.

A significant moment was the presentation of special prizes from representatives of the HIV-positive community, symbolizing the dialogue between the media and those they write about. An emotional moment was the speech of a community representative who thanked journalists for their honest and respectful attitude toward the issues faced by people with HIV.

All participants in the competition received special diplomas.
