More than 530 thousand dollars received by 4 organizations in Kyrgyzstan for the development of nurseries

Today, an important event took place at the Kyrgyz Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry — grant agreements were signed with the winners of the competition under the project "Sustainability of Regional Pastoral Communities – ADAPT." The total amount of funding allocated for the development of state nurseries for growing seedlings is 534 thousand US dollars.

Four institutions became the winners of the grant selection: Osh Forestry, the State Natural Park "Chon-Kemin," Karakulzhin Forestry, and the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University (KNAU). All of them successfully passed the selection, which included requirements for having a land plot of at least 5 hectares and a developed business plan. Sixteen applications from various organizations across the country participated in the competition.
The signing of the agreements was led by Zhanibek Kerimaliev, the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Agriculture. The Rector of KNAU, Rysbek Nurgaziev, also attended the ceremony, noting the importance of involving the leading agrarian university in the implementation of environmental projects.
The process of selecting the winners was conducted by an independent commission, which included representatives from government structures, industry associations, and civil society organizations. The final decision was approved by the project donor — the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
As part of this project, a specialized project company will also be involved, tasked with developing project and cost documentation for the nurseries. It is expected that the updated nurseries will be launched by the end of 2026. According to experts, they will be able to produce up to 2 million seedlings annually, including nut-bearing, fruit and berry, and ornamental crops.
The grown seedlings will be sent to forestry enterprises, farms, and other interested parties. This will contribute to greening, forest restoration, and sustainable development of rural regions in Kyrgyzstan.
The "ADAPT" project, supported by IFAD, aims to improve the resilience of pasture ecosystems, enhance food security, and develop a green economy in the country.
