At an extraordinary meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh held on December 26, the chief architect of the general plan for the city of Bishkek, Irina Grishechkina, expressed the opinion that a metro system is not a necessity for the city.
She noted that the implementation of such a project requires significant financial investments both at the construction stage and during further operation. "The effectiveness of the metro depends on population density and passenger flow, and if there is not enough concentration, it becomes extremely costly. Instead of investing huge sums, it would be more reasonable to improve the public transport system," Grishechkina added.

During public discussions, the option of constructing a monorail was also considered, which could run along the Ala-Archa and Alamedin rivers. However, according to the architect, such routes do not cover the central areas of the city, and traveling on the monorail would require additional efforts to reach the stations. She emphasized that such a project is not only aesthetically unappealing but would also take up space needed for tram lines.
Grishechkina concluded that in the future, with active city development, the need for a metro may arise, but at the moment, its implementation is not feasible.
