The procedure for forming the commission will also change
The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums plans to reduce the number of members. The corresponding draft law has already been submitted to the Jogorku Kenesh.
The proposal involves reducing the composition of the CEC from 12 to 7 members. In addition, the procedure for forming the commission will be revised:
- three members will be appointed at the suggestion of the president;
- four members will be elected by parliament at its discretion.
The authors of the draft law are confident that this scheme will help establish a balance between the branches of government and minimize the likelihood of decision-blocking due to an equal number of votes.
