According to information from the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the temporary permit for the supply of Russian oil and petroleum products loaded onto vessels before March 12, 2026, will be valid until April 11, 2026.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen noted on his social media account on platform X that Donald Trump "is taking decisive action to ensure stability in international energy markets and aims to keep prices low." He added that the Treasury is providing a temporary permit for the purchase of Russian oil that is at sea. According to him, this measure is short-term and will not bring significant profits to Russia.

As stated by Russia's special representative Kirill Dmitriev, the lifting of restrictions will affect about 100 million barrels of Russian oil, reports "Meduza".

We remind you that at the end of February, the U.S. and Israel began military operations against Iran. In response, Tehran is carrying out attacks on Israel and its allies. Iran has also effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial route for global oil. This has led to a sharp rise in oil prices: on March 9, the price of Brent crude nearly reached $120 per barrel, the highest level since June 2022.

In early March, the U.S. Treasury announced a temporary lifting of the ban on the purchase of Russian oil for Indian refineries for a period of 30 days. At the same time, member countries of the International Energy Agency (IEA), including the U.S., Turkey, the UK, and Germany, agreed to release significant oil reserves—400 million barrels, which constitutes one-third of the total reserves. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that "artificial price suppression of oil will not work" and urged preparations for "$200 per barrel."
